Blunt Rochester Announces Winners of the 2022 Congressional App Challenge

WILMINGTON, Del. – Today, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) visited Cab Calloway School of the Arts to announce the winners of the 2022 Congressional App Challenge. This year’s winners were Irwin Wang and Maya Perry for their app called Recycle Pro. The app aims to teach users about the recycling process, connect users with local community clean up events, and inform users of the nearest recycling centers in their areas. Blunt Rochester also joined the winners for a demonstration of the app.

“The Congressional App Challenge proves year after year to be an excellent way to get young people involved in STEM,” said Blunt Rochester. “I was encouraged by the creativity and ingenuity displayed by all of this year’s applicants. I want to extend my sincerest congratulations to Irwin and Maya for the hard work, passion, and teamwork that went into creating Recycle Pro, an app that will connect communities with the information and resources to make recycling easier. To Irwin and Maya and all the applicants of the Congressional App Challenge this year – keep up the excellent work! And remember, if you don’t know where the recycling should go, use Recycle Pro!”

The Congressional App Challenge was officially launched in 2015 by Congress to encourage STEM and computer-based skills in middle school and high school students. The Congressional App Challenge is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience. Winners are selected by a panel of judges and receive an invitation to the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Coding Exposition. Their apps will be featured in the U.S. Capitol, on House.gov, and the Congressional App Challenge website.

For more information about the Challenge, please visit CongressionalAppChallenge.us or call Rep. Blunt Rochester’s Wilmington Office at 302-830-2330. Students looking to submit apps for next year’s competition can expect the submission window to be open in summer 2023.
