Follow the following rubric and instructions
Middle School Vocal Music
Each student’s assessment will consist of the following:
- Warm Up: Sing a few simple warm up exercises to test vocal range.
- Pitch Matching: Sing back a series of pitches the instructor will play on the piano to demonstrate aural memory and the ability to sing higher notes in head voice.
- Dona Nobis Pacem: Sing Dona Nobis Pacem in the key of F major from memory (no sheet music).
- The sheet music to practice with can be found here.
- The recording we will be using for the audition can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fhJ6XrZ4jg
- Be prepared to sing the piece twice: as a solo and in a round with a recording.
- Broadway/Disney Solo: Sing 16 measures (or about 45 seconds) of a song from a Broadway Show or a Disney animated movie. Some of the more popular possibilities are: “Castle on a Cloud” from Les Mis, “Maybe” or “Tomorrow” from Annie or “Do-Re-Mi” from The Sound of Music. Above all, choose a song you like and feel confident singing, however, please make sure that it is school appropriate. If you have questions, please email Julie Katz at [email protected].
- Sight Singing: Sing a simple sight singing exercise by reading notes and rhythms in a three-note range; do, re, mi. For more information on sight singing, click here.
