ANTHONY GRAY-BOLDEN

DEAN

Dean Anthony Bolden is a visionary leader dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment within the transformative realm of performance arts at Cab Calloway School of the Arts. Currently, in his third year at the school, Mr. Bolden brings extensive experience, passionately committed to advancing innovative arts education to meet the diverse needs of students.

As a proud alumnus of the Girard Academic Music Program, a performing arts magnet school in Philadelphia, PA, Dean Bolden’s formative years were shaped by the harmonious integration of academic and musical excellence. His studies as a vocal major and mastery of the Double Bass led to remarkable performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Philadelphia Singers. He also participated in state competitions at Hershey, Pennsylvania. Notable experiences include singing at the historical Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal, Canada, performing on the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum for the Thanksgiving Parade finale, and joining voices with members of Boyz II Men in All City Choir.

Continuing his academic journey on an athletic scholarship at West Chester University, Dean Bolden earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. Dean Bolden pursued his professional basketball career in the Eastern Basketball Association from 1997-1999 and was inducted into the WCU Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. Fueled by his passion for counseling and educating children, he pursued a K-12 Special Education Certificate from Immaculata College, a Master of Education Degree in Curriculum Instruction from Penn State University, and an Educational Leadership Certification. Currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership, Dean Bolden remains dedicated to advancing the field of education.

He taught four content areas as a Special Education teacher at Chester County Intermediate Unit for six years, followed by two years as a Dean of Students. He served as an Assistant Principal for seven years at the Middle School level and five years as the Principal at Anna P. Mote Elementary School. Dean Bolden actively contributes to the Arts School Network and advocates for increased accessibility to arts education. His vision for CCSA is to normalize opportunities for artists within the creative economy while strengthening our students’ leadership capacity for global impact.

Dean Bolden is deeply committed to empowering students to navigate adversity through the expression of their art and talent. He strongly believes in trauma-informed and restorative practices that help create a safe, nurturing learning environment conducive to understanding the diverse needs of our school community as well as fostering a sense of belonging.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Dean Bolden finds joy in spending time with his wife and three sons. He enjoys deep-sea fishing, playing the piano, singing, and solving puzzles. Recently, he adopted a new hobby of bird watching, adding another layer to his diverse interests.

DENISE WARSHANY

ASSISTANT DEAN

Dr. Denise Warshany began at Cab Calloway in 2020. A Dance major graduate of a performing arts high school in New Jersey, Dr. Denise Warshany is an avid supporter of the arts in education. Denise earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English- Business and Technical Writing from University of Delaware, a Master of Education- School Leadership degree from Wilmington University, and a Doctor of Education- Educational Leadership degree from Wilmington University. She spent several years in business development and marketing in the technology and entertainment sectors before following her calling to become a teacher. After spending ten years in the Colonial School District, Denise most recently served seven years in leadership positions at Odyssey Charter School. She lives in Newark with her two children and two dogs and loves to spend time at the beach, gardening, and reading.

COREY HEACOCK

ASSISTANT DEAN

Dr. Corey Heacock’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University Maryland with a major in Biology and minor in Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Wesley College with a focus in secondary science education. Dr. Heacock earned an Ed.D. from Wilmington University in 2011, specializing in Educational Leadership and Innovation, with a dissertation focused on the impact of teacher self-disclosure on Facebook on students’ opinions, titled “Too Much Information: How Teacher Self-Disclosure on Facebook Influences Students’ Opinions.”

Dr. Heacock spent 8 years teaching various subjects at Indian River High School, including Biology, AP Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology. In 2013, she was named Indian River High School Teacher of the Year as well as being recognized as the State of Delaware Biotechnology Educator of the Year. Additionally, she served as an adjunct professor at Delaware Technical and Community College, teaching Anatomy and Physiology 1. Her leadership roles include 3 years as an assistant principal at Indian River High School, followed by 7 years as an assistant principal and principal at Stanton Middle School.

Dr. Heacock resides in Greenville, DE, alongside her husband and two children. Beyond her professional endeavors, she enjoys various hobbies, including hiking, kayaking, photography, cooking, gardening, and reading.
